The company follows Apple's example and will soon launch a system for users to repair their smartphones on their own

Samsung has announced an ambitious repair program. Over the next summer, the South Korean company will start selling spare parts, guides and tools to help consumers repair smartphones on their own.

At an early stage, it is only listed to take place in the United States, and with devices from the Galaxy S20 (S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra) and Galaxy S21 (S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra) series, in addition to the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. However, the company reveals that it wants to expand this to other equipment.

Thanks to these manuals, and the appropriate tools, customers will be able to replace the screen of their Galaxy S20/S21 or their tablet, replace the back panel or even the USB-C charging port. Upon completion of the repair, consumers will be required to return used parts to Samsung for recycling via the post office.

This program will be added to the various services offered by the brand to customers who want to repair their phone. In the United States, the company offers repairs at an official store or an authorized center, and at home. Samsung teams travel to the customer's residence to carry out the repair. Finally, Samsung also offers to ship a phone in need of repair, either by mail or via a carrier such as UPS.

Coincidence or not, Apple launched a similar program last November, Self Service Repair. The program allows users to repair their own iPhones, iPads or MacBooks using official replacement parts provided by Apple.

A good idea that should be followed by all manufacturers, not just smartphones.
