App VK economy mode function to view video

The VK Video service received support for automatically selecting the quality of the videos being played, which will help to reduce the amount of Internet traffic consumed, as well as save battery when viewing content from a smartphone. Saving mode appeared in the VK Video apps for Android and iOS, as well as in the web version of the service. It is expected to be especially sought after among users who use capped rates to connect to the Internet.

You can enable economy mode in video player settings. After that, all content, including online streams, will play in quality above 480p. If your internet connection speed is too low, the quality of the video being played may be reduced further to ensure uninterrupted viewing. The traffic saver function also works in autoplay mode, including when watching news feed clips.

According to available data, the new feature allows you to significantly reduce the amount of traffic consumed when watching videos. For example, watching a 15-minute video in Full HD (1080p) consumes around 550 MB of data, while playing the same video in 480p format consumes only 130 MB. Note also that in traffic saving mode, the device consumes battery power up to 1.5 times slower. The save function is enabled only for a specific user device. This means that when activated on a smartphone, users can continue watching videos in high quality on a computer or TV.
