Moto G Stylus: 2022 edition launched with a 90 Hz display and a questionable chipset change

Motorola has revealed the Moto G Stylus (2022), a hardware refresh that retains its predecessor's US$299.99 price tag. As its name suggests, the new Moto G Stylus still has a built-in stylus too, like the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, this year's Moto G Stylus could have a slower SoC than its predecessor.

Specifically, Motorola has equipped the Moto G Stylus (2022) with the MediaTek Helio G88 a 12 nm SoC that is older than the Snapdragon 678 it replaces. According to our database, the Helio G88 manages 86% of the performance that the Snapdragon 678 manages, too. In saying that, Helio G88 outpaces the Snapdragon 678 in some benchmarks, such as PCMark for Android.Snapdragon 678 manages, too. Similarly, the Helio G88 has a faster GPU than the Snapdragon 678. The Moto G Stylus (2022) offers upgrades on its predecessor in other areas though, such as a 90 Hz refresh rate. For reference, Motorola continues to use a 6.8-inch and 1080p display, albeit one that is 60 pixels taller than the display found in last year's Moto G Stylus.

Separately, Motorola equips the Moto G Stylus (2022) with 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable storage and a 5,000 mAh battery that it can recharge at 10 W. Additionally, the smartphone has 50 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide, 2 MP macro and 16 MP front-facing cameras. Motorola has not confirmed if it will release the Moto G Stylus (2022) outside the US, where it will arrive with Android 11. Motorola expects to begin shipping the Moto G Stylus (2022) on February 17.
