Android 12 has been available for a few months now, and as updates come in, notable new features are added. Today we report a lot of interesting and useful things to make smartphones even more secure.
The latest version of the operating system now adds the possibility to disable 2G in all conditions, even when the smartphone has no other alternative but to connect to a useful network. The point is that not all devices can be supported.
Of course, all over the world, 2G is practically no longer used in the form of the main network. And in the few cases where it is used, it is for short periods of time, in situations where smartphones have no way of selecting the preferred coverage. This is good because, due to its old design, it never had a very effective encryption capable of shielding attacks due, for example, to wiretapping.
And in the past there have been many cases, even stealing entire parts of audio and text. This could happen through an exploit that simulated radio towers that fit between the real towers and the cell phone.
But there is a problem with all this. Only the latest devices are able to activate the function we are talking about as there are hardware limitations. These are also just a small piece of software that, among other things, is the same that Google certifies by analyzing the situation from time to time.
So which products are included in this selection and which can be added? There is no precise list, but there are all Pixel 6s and all smartphones that have Android 12 native.
And the others? There are many Android 11 Samsung smartphones that will get it with the update to Android 12, but as mentioned above, Google will give their approval from time to time as per their certifications.
