XIAOMI

Brand announces new battery technology

The larger a smartphone's battery, the longer it will last on a charge. Smartphones, however, demand a good balance between a decent battery size and a slim, light design. This is difficult because there is little space in a phone to store all the parts. Xiaomi found a way to get more battery in the same space.

On top of a typical smartphone battery (left in the image opposite), we find a part that connects the battery to the rest of the smartphone. However, this part takes up some valuable space. Xiaomi found a way to drastically reduce this part. As a result, there is now room for about 10% more battery life.

A smartphone with a 5000mAh battery could therefore have a 5500mAh battery on board with this new battery technology. This difference can simply ensure that you can get through the day from now on at no extra cost.

In addition to battery size, several other factors play an important role in making battery life as long as possible. Think, for example, of the chip and the screen, which can be energy efficient (or not). Many modern smartphones remember their sleep rhythm, so they don't inject battery power for an unnecessarily long period at night. This so-called ‘overcharging’ is very detrimental to battery life.

This function normally works entirely with software, but Xiaomi brings the technology directly into the battery controller itself. In addition, the battery has new safety features and a built-in heat regulator to ensure the battery operates efficiently and safely. You could almost call this battery a smart battery.
