Startup creates a system that sees everything that goes on and warns the cyclist if they are at risk of a collision
Every year, bicycle accidents claim thousands of cyclists. Not only is the number excessive, but it can also prevent more and more individuals from joining alternatives for urban mobility, using bicycles and, above all, their electric “relatives”, the e-bikes. To help overcome the problem, Streetlogic has developed a driving aid system, similar to that used by automobiles, which aims to avoid frontal, side or rear collisions, with the American startup having already managed to gather 2.1 million dollars from investors to accelerate time to market.
This is not the first project of its kind, but it is one of the most promising. It monitors everything that goes on around the cyclist, detecting other cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles, light or heavy, warning the cyclist and informing him how to proceed. It is a safety system that can save lives and prevent many bruises.
Streetlogic's system is based on small sensors placed at the front and rear of the e-bike, associated with a smartphone on the handlebars, to be used as a screen. The “secret” is in the software that analyzes the images collected by the cameras and the information from the sensors to assess the behavior of everything that moves around the bicycle and calculates possible maneuvers that could cause accidents.
The entire system needs energy to function and that's where the e-bike battery comes in, with cost forecasts pointing to a price of $300 (€266) for orders placed immediately. The San Francisco-based company promises to quickly raise the price to $400 (€355) once the first units hit the market. Streetlogic will face competition from Israeli Ride Vision, among others.
