Signal app adds a new monetization feature

Signal, a privacy-focused instant messaging app that became popular after the controversial change to Whatsapp's privacy policy, is adding a new monetization feature. Unlike its instant messaging rivals, Sinal works entirely on donations and this new feature will make it easier for users to do so cash contributions and support the grant model.

...“Signal has no data to sell, no advertisers to sell and no shareholders to benefit from that sale… as Signal's sole beneficiaries, it is up to the people to support it”... writes the company in a post by one blog

Users can become a Signal Supporter by contributing a small amount monthly or by making one-off contributions. Users can choose from three supporter levels: $5, $10 and $20.

Users can make donations using Apple Pay and Google Pay, with the company planning to add more payment methods in the future. “Taking advantage of the anonymous credential scheme we introduced for Signal's private groups, customers make payments and then associate a badge to their profile so the server can authenticate the customer and everyone who made a payment, but don't know specifically what payment it corresponds to,”... the company wrote in a blog post.
