Global shortage of electronic components hits wireless communication Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)

A survey by the Dell'Oro Group suggests that the adoption of wireless communication Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) in the corporate sector has declined. The reason is the global shortage of electronic components. It is observed that normally the lead time for new orders for the supply of equipment for wireless Wi-Fi ranges from two to four weeks. However, this time has now increased to three to six months.

According to the Dell’Oro Group, major equipment suppliers for the business segment were the first to face the scarcity of Wi-Fi microchips. These are Cisco, Extreme and HPE / Aruba: they warned of supply problems in their reports for the second quarter of this year. A little later, many American and European sellers started talking about the difficulties with shipping. Faced with this situation, suppliers began to change their sales strategy.

First, the equipment is shipped to customers who find themselves in a desperate situation, faced with a device failure or critical obsolescence. Those who upgrade equipment according to the planned cycle are forced to stand in line. In the near future, the situation with the provision of Wi-Fi 6 solutions is unlikely to improve. Market participants say the deficit will be seen for at least the first half of 2022.
