STREAMING

The Android Planet Streaming Awards: Best Series and Films of 2021

-Best new series: Squid Game (Netflix)...This was a difficult category because there were simply so many good new series coming out in 2021. Still, we like the Squid Game better. This series kept people busy and for good reason.

Squid Game is about people with huge debts who can earn a huge amount of money playing potentially lethal versions of innocent children's games. The series is surprising, shocking and leaves you on the edge of your seat until the end.

-Best new season: Sex Education Season 3 (Netflix)...Due to the corona we had to wait a little longer for the third season of Sex Education, but it was worth it. This series is about a school where students have an above-average interest in sex. Students will have a new principal this season, who will introduce new rules, like a uniform for everyone.

It sounds silly, but it's exactly what this series needs: a twist to tell new stories. Sex Education is the best series made at the moment. You don't see so much quality and originality anymore.

-Best film: The Green Knight (Prime Video)...This year, Netflix did its best to finally offer some good exclusives, but we were still very impressed with O Cavaleiro Verde. The artistic film that adds a new twist to the legend of King Arthur was not made exclusively for Amazon, but was shown almost simultaneously with its theater release via the streaming service. While the movie doesn't appeal to everyone, we hope everyone will give it a chance. Especially when you finish the umpteenth superhero movie.

-Best Reality Series: Clarkson's Farm (Prime Video)...You probably know Jeremy Clarkson from shows like Top Gear or The Grand Tour. This rather clumsy guy decided to turn his land into a farm. This is harder than he thought.

Now you probably expect the same nonsense from your auto shows, but Clarkson's Farm turned out to be a lot more sincere. With each episode, Clarkson has a new target on his farm, such as sheep or a farm shop. Of course everything goes wrong, but also surprisingly right.

-Best Special: Bo Burnham – Inside (Netflix)...The last few years were difficult for comedians because they couldn't perform. Intelligence comedian Bo Burnham therefore recorded a special for Netflix from his home. With a unique combination of comedy, fun songs, sheer desperation and a lot of recognition, this special will stay with you for a long time. In the runners-up you will find not only comedy, but also other specials that are worth it.

-Best Documentary: The Beatles: Get Back (Disney Plus)...Lots of new footage of the Beatles was found. Filmmaker Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) dove to make a special documentary. Here you can see, among other things, how the band's best-known songs are created. The cameras are so close together that, in the end, it feels like you were there yourself.

-Best animation: Luca (Disney Plus)...For animation lovers, 2021 was a year of strong series and films, in which we were constantly surprised. The toughness of the Invincible superhero series, how small changes can have big consequences in What If…? and how the Arcane League of Legend series is much better than we ever imagined.

Even so, this year's award goes to Pixar for Luca. A beautiful movie about a fish boy who tries to get along with people and then hides. A recognizable story for those who hide their true nature out of fear of the people around them. But also a wonderful adventure film in Italy.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
