AMAZON

Company will build private 5G networks for its customers

AWS announced preliminary access to the new AWS Private 5G Managed Service in the United States. It will provide a turnkey solution for customers who want to build private mobile networks but don't have the time, experience or money to invest in developing their own networks. The new service allows companies to deploy private 5G networks and scale them as needed.

The customer only needs to provide the location, required network capacity and number of connected devices, and AWS will provide all necessary equipment including radios, servers, 5G core and radio access network software and SIM cards. Once deployed, the service can fully automate capacity sizing to support additional devices and network traffic.

The service will integrate with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), allowing network administrators to directly control device access to private network resources, as well as define the priority (QoS), speed and latency of each device. There are no upfront payments to service users and you will not be billed per device. Customers will only have to pay for bandwidth and network capacity.

''With AWS Private 5G, we are expanding the hybrid infrastructure on customers' 5G networks to make building a 5G private network easy, fast and cost-effective,'' said David Brown, vice president of AWS. He noted that customers can start small and expand over time and monitor and manage their network from the AWS console. Potential uses for this technology include expanding connectivity to devices, sensors, machines and manufacturing equipment. This will allow large industrial complexes to easily track their entire production chain in real time, according to Amazon.

Having a high-bandwidth 5G private network will also allow multiple workstations to be securely connected to run low-latency applications including AR and VR. This will be useful for design work or medical procedures where responsiveness is important, but privacy and security are paramount.
