Switching between 5G and 4G on your smartphone

Many smartphone users report that the battery drains faster when using the 5G network. Fortunately, you can manually switch between 5G and 4G. That way you can save a little energy without wasting too much.

Different smartphone manufacturers have organized their setup menus a little differently. There's a good chance that the way to switch mobile networks on your smartphone is similar to one of the steps below.

To switch between mobile networks on a Samsung smartphone:

-Open the settings application;

-Scroll down and find the title ‘Connections’;

-In ‘Connections’, press ‘Mobile networks’;

-Tap ‘Network Mode’;

-Select your preferred network type.

So you can choose whether you want to start with just 2G, 3G, 4G or even 5G. Your device even automatically chooses which type of network it connects to. So if you have a device that can handle this, if you're in the right coverage area and that's also part of your subscription, it's possible that you'll be using a different type of network.

How to set the correct preferred network type on other Android phones:

-Open the settings application;

-Scroll down and find the heading ‘Wi-Fi and Network’;

-In ‘Wi-Fi & network’, press ‘YES & network’;

-Tap ‘Preferred network type’;

-Define the type of network you want to connect to.
