Surface Duo restricted to the North American market
Microsoft disappointed many fans last month by announcing that the Surface Duo foldable smartphone would only be sold in the United States and that the company has no plans to bring it to the global market in the near future. In the US, the device is now available for order from 399 and will begin shipping on September 10. The rest of the world will have to wait a few months.
Respected Windows Central analyst Zac Bowden said the company's decision was probably motivated by Microsoft's fear of a repeat Surface RT tablet, when demand was well below preliminary estimates. Then the company launched a series of devices that significantly exceeded demand, as a result, they had to get rid of the stock, selling them at bargain prices. The analyst said that, according to his sources, this time Microsoft plans to start shipping Surface Duo to foreign markets before 2021, after making sure that the product demonstrates the projected level of sales in the United States.
However, these delays are not good for Microsoft. Keep in mind that the Surface Duo smartphone is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and does not support 5G and NFC. If at the time of its presentation at the end of last year the Surface Duo filler looked attractive, it is now becoming obsolete every day.
