Huawei and Honor may be without Android update

It was learned that yesterday the license expired, according to which American companies provided software updates to Chinese Huawei. This means that in the future, Android mobile devices from Huawei and Honor, as well as other products, including telecommunications equipment, may miss updates.
Under the temporary license, some exceptions were made possible to the ban on cooperation of United States companies with Huawei, introduced by the American government last year. Keep in mind that the ban prevents American companies from providing technology to the Chinese telecommunications giant, but Huawei devices have continued to receive software updates and security patches under a temporary license.
The United States Department of Commerce attributed this change to the need to provide a grace period for some American telecom operators that used Huawei equipment on their networks. These are mainly small regional operators, since large companies have not used Huawei equipment or have already replaced it
The Commerce Department confirmed that the license had expired, adding that "it allowed users and providers of telecommunications services to continue to interact with existing networks and devices, accelerating the transition to alternative providers." A spokesman for Huawei said the company is "monitoring the situation and assessing the possible consequences".
The end of the license also means that Google will no longer be able to provide software updates to Huawei mobile devices running Android. Before that, Google, under the aforementioned license, provided updates for Android and branded services for Huawei and Honor devices, which were launched before the U.S. government ban, which began operating in May last year, came into force.
