Brand new smartphone will feature an innovative camera with variable aperture lens

OPPO today unveiled the next generation periscope camera. So far, this is just a separate module, but the first smartphones with it may be shown in the near future.
The camera is equipped with a seven-element lens and can adjust the focal length from 85 to 135 mm. The aperture can be changed from f / 3.3 to f / 4.4 at maximum magnification. Movement and positioning, autofocus and optical image stabilization will be controlled by a new 16-bit high-precision IC driver.

It is worth mentioning that the company presented not only a “naked” lens. OPPO worked hard on the sensor and image processing algorithms. The sensor has a resolution of 32 MP and Quad Bayer filter. Thanks to the image overlay, the camera can operate with a hybrid zoom(image below) of up to 280 mm. When used with a 26mm lens, the module offers 5.2x optical zoom and 11x hybrid zoom.

A device that could be the first smartphone with this camera was seen on the TENAA website last month. The smartphone, which is likely to make the Reno series, will have a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, 5G support and a 3945mAh battery. As a reminder, OPPO is rumored to be working on 125 W fast charging, which is also aimed at future flagships.
