Google lets you order food directly through search and Maps

Do you know when you never remember which delivery app is that restaurant near your home? Google is about to address this issue. From this Thursday, 19, it will be possible to place restaurant orders directly through search and also through Google Maps.
The novelty was initially announced in partnership with delivery service providers or channel integrators, such as Rappi, Delivery Center and Onyo. Google said it will soon expand the list of partners and that, outside Brazil, it even has restaurant chains included in this model. When the user searches for a restaurant that is part of the catalog and has delivery in his region, there will be a “place your order” button, which will connect to a partner service.
The purchase can be tracked within Google, where the order was placed, and is finalized using Google Pay, which eliminates the need to register for applications.
Do you know when you never remember which delivery app is that restaurant near your home? Google is about to address this issue. From this Thursday, 19, it will be possible to place restaurant orders directly through search and also through Google Maps.
This model should make it easier to find restaurants and place orders without having to browse different applications and perform more than one search. According to Google, there is a demand for this type of solution, mainly because of the role that food delivery started to play during the pandemic and coronavirus - there was an increase in searches for "delivery" on the platform and the term reached a record in the first half, with an increase of 62% in relation to the same period of 2019. In some restaurants, the revenue from delivery has more than doubled.
For Alessandro Germano, director of business development for Latin America at Google, the goal is to deliver a useful service to users and to be an additional channel for restaurants has increased its base and product offer. “We have a long history of working with companies in general, of all sizes, in this case restaurants to increase their visibility and presence online. This is one more step towards bringing an interesting option to this sector that is very affected [by the Covid-19 pandemic] ”, he said.
Rappi said that, initially, not all restaurants will be available immediately in the new system. “The idea is to increase the catalog of restaurants available over time. It is important to note that Rappi is one of the first services to integrate the new Google feature, which was designed to improve the user experience and contribute to the ecosystem ”, said Sérgio Saraiva, president of Rappi in Brazil.
According to Saulo Brazil, co-founder and executive president of the Delivery Center, a service that allows the restaurant menu to be integrated with different delivery platforms, it will be important for restaurants to have a means of sales like this. "Given the current moment in restaurants and food retailers in general it is important to have a channel with the power of demand generation that Google has," he said.
