NOKIA

The return of the brand to the USA, in order to offer affordable 5G mobile devices
Since HMD Global purchased Microsoft's Nokia brand rights in 2016, the Finnish company has made significant progress in reviving the brand. Despite the quarterly growth, Nokia smartphones were not as successful in the US as the manufacturer expected; therefore, in the future, HMD management plans to make several changes to the strategy for promoting branded devices in the American market.
Although American operators have partnered with HMD to distribute some entry-level and intermediate Nokia devices, they are not as popular as Android smartphones from other manufacturers, such as Samsung, Google or LG. Obviously, Nokia should be more active in expanding open sales channels through third-party retailers, such as Amazon or Best Buy. It should be noted that approximately 90% of smartphone sales in the United States come from networks of telecommunications operators, while only 10% - from other channels.
Juho Sarvikas, global product director at HMD, who recently took over as head of the company's North American division, says there is an increase in efforts to promote Nokia-branded devices in the U.S. He noted that the company plans to work more closely with telecom operators, attracting more models of smartphones from the European division. The first device of its kind to hit the US market soon will be the Nokia 8.3 5G. For about $ 50, this model can become quite popular, as it is cheaper than many competitors in the 5G smartphone segment and, according to Nokia, will be compatible with all existing 5G networks in the United States.
More important for fans of the brand is that Nokia promises to launch more niche models in the US and updated retro devices, like the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 8110. In addition, Nokia is a manufacturer that not only owns smartphones, but also e traditional cell phones, which have grown slightly in popularity in recent years.
While the launch of Nokia 8.3 5G in the US is the right step, HMD will need more than one device to reinstate Nokia as one of the top US cellphone brands.
