Company announces 5G radio connection

Samsung Electronics has announced a new fully virtualized 5G radio access (vRAN) solution that will help operators increase efficiency, reduce costs and simplify management by deploying the fifth generation communications network software infrastructure.
The presented platform consists of a virtualized central unit (vCU), a virtualized distributed unit (vDU) and a wide range of radio units, providing a smooth transition to the 5G standard.
The Samsung 5G vRAN acts as a software alternative to a specific manufacturer's hardware. In addition, the solution has high performance, flexibility and stability.
"By replacing dedicated hardware from the main frequency band used in traditional RAN architecture with software elements on a universal computing platform, mobile operators will be able to easily scale the capacity and performance of 5G networks, add new features and capacity to support multiple architectures, ”says Samsung.

The new solution allows using the platform for commercial use (COTS) in the x86 architecture. We are talking about standard servers, which are present in the variety of many manufacturers. The use of such equipment will allow operators to significantly reduce costs.
Note that the Samsung vRAN solution, with its easy scalability and manageability, is suitable for operators who need to expand their network capacity and develop 5G to meet growing customer demands. The commercial start-up of the system is scheduled for the current quarter.
