GARMIN

The company that lives a drama in the hands of hackers

Garmin, a company in the United States that makes smart sports watches and GPS equipment, may have to pay $ 10 million to free its systems from a cyber attack that brings down its services since Thursday (23.Jul.2020).
The ransomware invasion encrypts system content and steals stored files. To retrieve the information, hackers ask for cash ransom. The company's shares fell 1.13% on Thursday (23.Jul.2020) and 3.45% on Friday (24.Jul.2020) in the United States Nasdaq technology index.
Through Twitter, the company reported that the Garmin Connect Fitness website and mobile app are down. “This disruption also affects our call centers and we are currently unable to receive calls, emails or chats online. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and we apologize for this inconvenience, ”he said.
The aviation “flyGarmin” website is also down. Security news site Bleeping Computer said Garmin was attacked by the WastedLocker ransomware, which is associated with a Russian cybercriminal group known as Evil Corp.
App users complain about unavailability of services and physical activity records on Garmin smartwatches. The watches have GPS and measure heart rate, respiratory rate and other services.
Gamin also provides services to the professional market and government entities, such as aviation sensors, automatic pilot systems and air traffic control. The company has not yet said whether these systems were harmed by the cyber attack.
