Questionable Pixel 5 CAD renders surface

Some CAD renders purporting to be the Google Pixel 5 have appeared online. Bearing an uncanny resemblance to the supposedly cancelled Pixel 4a XL, the design would see Google abandoning its Project Soli radar system after just one generation. We are not the only ones to have our doubts about the veracity of these renders, though.
News about the Google Pixel 5 has been sweeping the internet, with Pigtou claiming to have received some CAD renders of the device courtesy of @xleaks7. Both insist that the renders are not of the seemingly cancelled Pixel 4a XL, despite them being dead-ringers for the back panel of the axed device that appeared on eBay earlier this year.
Other people are more sceptical, though. Well-known Twitter personality @OnLeaks "decided not to share it [the renders] as it's [sic] seems very doubtful". We are sceptical too. Not only do the renders look exactly like the Pixel 4a XL, but also it would mean that Google had cancelled its Project Soli program after just one generation. It would see Google reverting to capacitive fingerprint scanners for its flagship smartphones too, which would be unusual.

Stephen Hall of 9to5Google is similarly unpersuaded by the CAD renders that Pigtou and @xleaks7 have released. Tweeting to his followers yesterday, Hall stated that "with near-certainty" that Google will release the Pixel 4a, a "Sabrina" Android TV dongle and a new smart speaker "at some point this year". However, he added that:
I wouldn't believe anything about 'Pixel 5' out there quite yet. Little clarity as of yet.
So, we would treat these CAD renders with even more scepticism than usual. We could be wrong of course, but we imagine that more accurate Pixel 5 series renders will appear in the next few months.
