Brand patents a foldable smartphone that resembles the Huawei Mate Xs
A new Xiaomi patent has recently surfaced for a foldable smartphone. The patent was found on CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) database and reveals a device that highly resembles the Huawei Mate Xs.
Looking at the images, the Xiaomi patent is for a smartphone with a flexible display. It folds outward with a noticeable bezel on the right corner when completely unfolded. When it is folded outward, the rear the front facing side is full screen body while the rear has a narrow segment that houses its camera module. This design is quite similar to the Mate Xs that was launched earlier this year.
The large display on the front has negligible bezels surrounding it, with the narrow right corner also featuring the volume rockers and power button. The narrow segment on the back sports a quad camera setup along with a mic, an LED flash, and a button as well. This button is apparently pressed to release unfold the display from its place. In other words, the display is secured with this mechanism.
The patented Xiaomi smartphone is charged via a USB Type C port that is flanked by a speaker grill. When looking at the device from the back, one can observe the hinge mechanics on the rear of the device is unfolded. Unfortunately, it is unknown if the Chinese tech giant will actually manufacturer such a device or if it’s just covering all bases.
