WWDC 2020

WatchOS 7 brings sleep tracking and sophisticated displays with widgets

Today, during WWDC's main digital presentation, Apple announced a new version of the watchOS 7 operating system for smart watches. The update brings some important innovations, including the renamed Activity app, now called Fitness, and the sleep tracking feature.
Sleep quality tracking based on micromotion and heart rate analysis is perhaps one of the most sought after features since the Apple Watch was launched in 2015. Users will be able to set the alarm time for sleep and morning to receive reminders using the new smooth vibration mode. Deactivate mode will interact with the iPhone, delaying notifications when it's time to sleep.
Widgets and screen developers added to WatchOS 7 can create more complex interfaces, and users can further individualize their displays and share interface settings using the Face Sharing function or via a link on social networks. The interface settings will also appear in the app store section. Not everyone is ready to spend a lot of time conveniently configuring the interface, so it's convenient to make your favorite dial from a friend or on the website.
The new operating system also acquired support for bike paths on maps and tracking of new types of fitness loads, for example, dance training. And the Siri voice assistant will be able to perform language translations directly on the watch without connecting to a smartphone.

The coronavirus pandemic has also made adjustments, and now the watch tracks hand washing and can emit a signal, protecting users from excessive zeal. The watch also warns when the recommended maximum usage time for headphones for a week is exceeded by WHO. Finally, the CarKey feature introduced in iOS 14 is supported - it allows you to use your iPhone or Apple Watch as a key for a car.
WatchOS 7 is available to developers today, and Apple will release an open beta in July. First and second generation Apple Watch users will be upset - the 7th version of the system does not support them, but requires a minimum of Series 3.
