APPLE

Safari will soon receive extension support from other browsers

It is reported that in macOS Big Sur, Safari supports more types of web extensions. In addition, Apple plans to simplify the migration of existing extensions designed for other browsers. Safari has long supported extensions, but compared to browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, your choice is very modest. With the release of macOS Big Sur, that should change.
During WWDC, Apple announced Safari Web Extensions. In fact, the browser will use the same APIs used in Chrome and Firefox. For Mac users, this means that a standard web browser can incorporate a large number of ready-made extensions designed for third-party browsers. Previously, only common extensions and content blockers could be used in Safari. In the future, Safari Web Extensions will make it easier to create useful add-ons using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
Apple is currently taking a slightly different approach from other browser developers. Web extensions for Safari are installed on the App Store like regular apps. In addition to improving the work with extensions, Apple redesigned the design of the corporate browser, significantly increased its performance and level of privacy.
