Chinese manufacturer of LCD panels overtook LG Display for the first time at the beginning of the year

The coronavirus pandemic helped Chinese company BOE Technology surpass for the first time South Korean LG Display in the supply of LCD panels in the first quarter of the year. Most of LG Display'S LCD panels are mass-produced in China, so restrictive measures related to quarantine for the transportation of products have reduced the volume of LG Display. The BOE was also partially affected for the same reasons, but was saved by China's domestic market orientation.
In general, as Sigmaintell analysts report, in the first quarter of 2020, manufacturers sent 31.4 million LCD panels of various diagonals. This is 7.7% lower than in the same period last year. Regarding the glass supplied, the reduction was 3.8%, which resulted in the supply of LCD with a total area of 5 million m2. This means that on average, the diagonal of the LCD panels provided has increased, namely-24 inches or 0.7 inches more than a year ago (0.2 inches more than in the previous quarter).
The Chinese company BOE Technology, as noted above, ranked first in the ranking of LCD suppliers, with the volume of embedded panels with 8.7 million damage, which represented an annual growth of 13%. LG Display delivered 6.9 million panels, or 11% less than a year ago. Thirdly, there is the Taiwanese company AU Optronics. Like the LG Display, in the process of mounting the panel, it depends on Chinese factories, which were forced to remain idle during the pandemic. Thus, over the year, the quarterly supply of LCD panels from AU Optronics decreased by 23%.
The rest of the liquid crystal panels market was distributed as follows in descending order: Samsung, Innolux Corporation, CEC-Panda and TCL CSOT.
Returning to the company BOE: it should be noted that it is actively switching to the production of better IPS panels and panels using other new technologies. Thus, in the first quarter, IPS LCD accounted for 75% of LCD shipments.

As for the forecast for the second quarter, analysts expect a strong demand for the panel. According to them, the consumer market and coffee on the Internet are recovering, as well as the demand for panels with an increasing diagonal.
