MOTOROLA
Edge Plus will receive at least two Android OS updates (Android 12)
Motorola returned to making flagship smartphones with the recently launched Motorola Edge Plus. The handset ships with Android 10 out of the box. The company now promises at least two Android OS updates (up to Android 12) for the device.
Android updates and Motorola are not heard of together in recent years. The company is poor in updating its devices regularly and on time. But it was not like this a few years back. The OEM used to be one of the first brands to roll out security patches and Android OS updates.
Hopefully, it will return to its old glorious days with the new initiative. The Motorola Edge Plus starts at $999, which is definitely not cheap. The company must provide at least two Android platform updates to this handset like any other brand. So it is definitely not worth bragging about.
Anyway, this is just a promise (marketing stunt) and the company has to yet prove it. Motorola is known for leaving out Moto G4 Plus for Android Oreo although it was promised at the launch. After criticism, it did release the update but maintained the phone was supposed to receive the update.
On the other hand, we have another premium device from the brand called Motorola Razr, which just received its Android 10 update. Being the world’s first clamshell foldable smartphone costing $1499, it should have launched with the latest software in the first place.
Unlike the Edge Plus, the Razr will be receiving one more major update and that would be Android 11 whose public beta is expected to be announced on June 3.
