Google has released the third of six developer previews planned for Android 11, and the news is piling up. From new features to changes in appearance. And, of course, there are also some bugs that should be fixed in the next updates, such as the position of the clock in Pixel 4, currently cut by the curvature in the corner of the screen.
Users of the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4 XL models that are part of the beta for Android 11 developers can now download DP3 (“developer preview 3 ”) to check all changes below.
But first, it’s good to keep a few things in mind. The first is that these are the changes found by the staff of the 9To5Google website after a long time of use. The second is that a lot is still being tested and could change until the release of Android 11 in the second half, and even some features may end up discarded along the way.
Having clarified these points, let us go to the news:
-Notification preferences card has increased: the app icon for which you open the preferences menu - where you can, for example, disable notifications - is larger than in DP2.
-Status bar cut: the top bar was very high in the DP3 of Android 11, which means that the time in Pixel 4 has gone too far into the corner, and the first figure now has the top cut. The same is true of the battery percentage sign on the other side. This should be corrected in the future.
-Volume has changed its name: when you open the media volume card, the title shown is now ‘sound’ instead of ‘volume’.
-Arrow in notifications has gotten bigger: the icon that shows when a notification can be expanded (and then contracted) has increased considerably in size.
-Wired internet sharing: in the internet routing options, in addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it is now possible to share the network via a USB-C to Ethernet cable.
Notifications: all can be discarded now, even those in progress, very common in apps that run in the background.
-Undo removal of apps from the recent screen: the latest beta version of Android 11 has a gesture for the user to bring back a recent app that they have just dismissed. It only works with one that has recently been removed, but it is already something for you to unintentionally resume an application discarded from the screen.
-Adjusting the sensitivity of the sides: Google also included a new adjustment for the level of sensitivity of the gesture on the side of the device, which may be lower on one side and higher on the other. The user can arrange the way they prefer, choosing how the sensitivity is on the left side and how it will be on the right. The configuration will apply to all apps, according to the system.
-Screen capture pop-up menu: the Android 11 DP3 brings a new interface to the little window that appears when the user takes a screen capture. Much smaller, and, at least for now, without the option to scroll to capture more content.
-Redesigned recent apps: and finally, at least within what the 9To5Google site was able to discover, we have some news on the screen of recent apps, in addition to the possibility of undoing the closing of one of them. Instead of showing a list of frequently used apps, there are now two shortcuts: screenshot and sharing.
