Novo limite no WhatsApp corta em 70% circulação de mensagens virais
WhatsApp cuts viral circulation by 70%

In early April, WhatsApp announced a new limit for forwarding messages. The company revealed on Monday, 27, the impact of the measure: a 70% reduction in the circulation of viral messages. The information was given to the TechCrunch technology website.
"We recently introduced a limit on sharing 'highly forwarded messages' for just a single conversation. Since the implementation of this new limit, there has been an overall 70% reduction in the number of highly forwarded messages," says a company statement.
In 2018, the company limited the simultaneous forwarding to five conversations or groups at once, which is still valid. The novelty of the beginning of April is that, once this limit is reached, the user can only send the same message to one contact or group at a time - until then it was allowed to redistribute the message in groups of five referrals.
WhatsApp, which belongs to Facebook, tries to combat the circulation of fake messages and potentially harmful content on its platform. In different countries, including Brazil, the messenger is the target of criticism for allowing the forwarding of this type of material. With the coronavirus crisis, which is accompanied by a high volume of false information, the company has seen the danger grow even more.
In early April, the company said on its blog: "We believe it is important to slow the spread of these messages in order to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversations."
