STREAMING

Disney+Disney + gained over 10 million subscribers on first day of operation

This Wednesday (13) Disney announced a brand of envy: in just 24 hours of existence, Disney +, the company's streaming service, surpassed the mark of 10 million subscriptions.
The news was officially confirmed by the company, which did not elaborate on the exact number of subscribers. Even so, this makes it clear that Disney and a +, which I was born, with great success, and serves as a good complement to the information released earlier by the Apptopia website, which indicated that the Disney's + the application had been downloaded more than 3.2 million times.

To put these numbers in context, Wall Street analysts projected that Disney and a + would close its first year of operation, with somewhere between 10 million and 18 million subscribers - which means that Disney has already met the market expectations in the US. first 24 hours of operation.
These numbers have caused people to wonder if Disney would be on a path to dominate the streaming market, but it is too early to make any comparison with the big adversary in this market: Netflix. That's because Netflix came at a time when" it was all overgrown " and literally created a whole market for its product. So it makes no sense to try to compare the number of first day Disney + subscribers with those of the first day of Netflix.

In addition to publicizing the number of subscribers on the first day of the service, the company also revealed that the most watched content in the first 24 hours was to The Mandalorian, " the first live-action TELEVISION series in the Star Wars universe. The first episode has been watched by over 2 million people, and that number is expected to increase in the coming days.
Disney has also confirmed that, for now, this should be the only information we will have from the service for some time, and that it will only disclose the number of subscribers in its next quarter''s fiscal report, due out January-February. from 2020.
