Two former Twitter employees accused of spying in the US

US justice has accused two former Twitter officials of spying on behalf of the Saudi government. According to the Washington Post, they used the company's system to guard dissidents from Prince Mohammed bin Salman's government, accused of being the mastermind of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year inside the country's embassy in Turkey.
The US Department of Justice has sentenced both after one of them was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. Ahmad Abouammo is accused of spying at least three accounts inside the platform for the Saudi government.
Police are still trying to find another person who worked for the social network and who would have accessed data from over 6,000 profiles. Among them is a person close to Khashoggi, who was a well-known critic of the Saudi government.
According to the Post, there is also a third member, this non-Twitter employee, who would be the intermediary between the Saudi government and the informants. He was also charged with crimes by the Justice Department.
Still, the story associates the three men with a group led by Mohammed bin Salman himself.
In response, Twitter said it "limits access to sensitive information to a limited group of trained employees." The company also reported that “understands the huge risk that anyone who uses the platform to speak up. “We have tools to protect their privacy and the ability for this vital work. We are committed to protecting those who use our service to advocate for equality, individual freedoms and human rights, ”the company said.
