Company may bring iPhone SE back in 2020
Apple may bring back the iPhone SE line for next year. Japan's Nikkei newspaper said it had spoken with sources who confirmed that Apple is already developing a new version of its cheaper line and will be inspired by the iPhone 8 SE.
The American manufacturer's goal would be to reclaim space in the intermediate device market. Smartphone sales have declined in recent quarters, with Apple still remaining competitive only among the top. And yet, she has been losing positions, as last year was overtaken by Huawei and sees Xiaomi approaching. Thus, the entry of a new SE could help the company gain a share of markets like China and India, against the same Huawei, Samsung and Xiaomi.
According to Nikkei, the device is under development with LCD screen and should include most of the components that will integrate iPhones that will be presented next September 10.
The information partially corroborates what the site EDN published earlier this year, also saying that Apple could return with the SE model, but would bring LED display. However, the site pointed out that the smartphone would only have a camera in the back and a capacity of 128 GB.
The Nikkei also talks about pricing so Apple can make it back to the Asian market hard. To be competitive there, the iPhone SE would need to cost up to $ 299, and the iPhone 8 SE has already been launched at $ 399. That is, Apple will have to juggle to achieve that. Or rather: it needs to reduce its profit margin.
