1st quantum teleportation in 3D is successful
The achievement was achieved by a team of Austrian and Chinese scientists and could significantly influence the development of early quantum computers.
Quantum physicists from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the University of Vienna, and the University of Science and Technology of China conducted an experiment that demonstrated the possibility of teleporting complex, quantum quantum states, according to the journal Physical Review Letters.
The researchers teleported the quantum state of a photon (a particle of light that can carry information) to another location, located at a certain distance.
This was not the first experiment of its kind, but before it was only possible to carry photons on two levels, or "qubits", which is digital information with values of "0" and "1".
This time the researchers were able to teleport a three-level state called "qutrit".
This successful experiment can have important consequences on the way information is organized and transmitted, including the possibility of a much faster and more secure quantum Internet.
