Lunches the fastest USB-C hub on the market with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support
Sony has launched the world's fastest USB-C hub, the MRW-S3. The device is differentiated from other similar products on the market by being the only one to support USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds up to 1000MB's.
USB-C hubs are a dime a dozen but one of the major frustrations with them is up until now, none have taken full advantage of the USB 3.1 / USB-C specification. This apparently has not been unnoticed by Sony, which has developed a new USB-C hub that it has less imaginatively called the MRW-S3. The device is aimed at professional photographers, videographers and creators that own a notebook or desktop with at least one free USB-C port.
The MRW-S3 USB-C hub runs at the full USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed, which Sony says means data transfers can be completed up to 1,000 MB / s. It also supports UHS-11 SD and microSD cards at full speeds, but maximum transfer rates are achieved when connected to an external SSD. At the same time, its HDMI power can output to a 4K monitor at 30fps. Even better, the MRW-S3 can support up to 100W USB Power Delivery (USB PD) with power level indicators that show if the port can be connected at maximum power supply levels for a stable connection.
While all of this is good news, the only trouble is that Sony has not indicated a release date or a price in its press release. We will update this article when we get the necessary details. by Sanjiv Sathiah
