Galaxy Watch gains FCC registration
An upcoming Samsung smartwatch with the model number SM-R830 has been approved by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This registration shows that the watch has a 40mm variant, and will come in stainless steel or aluminium casings. It also confirms that this device will not have the adjustable crown seen in earlier watches of this series.
With its new FCC registration, the next Samsung Galaxy Watch now looks closer to launch than ever. This new wearable was sent to the communications body on July 25, 2019, as a device with at least 1 40mm variant. Its units will come in either stainless steel or aluminium, in line with an earlier leak. Both of these conform to the 8100-MIL-STG standard, are rated to withstand up to 5ATM of pressure and rock a type of Corning Gorilla Glass called DX+.
This new product is thought to be a second-generation Galaxy Watch Active, although there is nothing in its new documentation to confirm this directly. (Then again, its extensive new durability-related specs argue for this eventuality somewhat.) Instead, it is referred to as the SM-R830. This device is shown from both the front and rear in schematics and live images.
This material shows a large sensor on the back of the watch, which may correspond to the electrocardiography-enabled heart rate monitor rumored to feature on the Watch Active 2. The screen's photographs also appear to definitively negate any re-appearance of the innovative motile bezel seen in earlier Samsung wearables. They also indicate that this new Galaxy Watch will ship with 4GB in storage. by Deirdre O Donnell
