SONY
PlayStation already has its own movie studioSony Interactive Entertainment has announced the creation of a division specializing in adapting some of its best-known series of motion-picture games. Named PlayStation Productions, this studio will be led by Asad Qizilbash under the supervision of Sony Interactive Entertainment's President of Worlwide Studios, Shawn Layden.
"We have 25 years of experience in video game development, and there have been 25 years of great video games, franchises and stories. We feel it's the perfect time to take advantage of streaming, television or film opportunities to bring our worlds to life through other means, "Layden said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The success of adaptations such as 'Detective Pikachu' and news of new films from the 'Mortal Kombat' series serve as a signal that video game companies have more ambitions for their intellectual properties. In the case of Sony, it means that there are good reasons to expect adaptations of some of their biggest series like 'Uncharted', 'The Last of Us' and maybe even 'God of War' or 'Horizon Zero Dawn'.
