Snapchat collaborators have access to private user dataThe Motherboard advanced with the news that collaborators of the company responsible for Snapchat, Snap, had access to private data of the users through a tool named SnapLion.
The information was shared with Motherboard by former and current company contributors, which reveal that "for several years" SnapLion was used to access location information, recorded Snaps, telephone numbers and email addresses. Note that no one has guaranteed that the tool in question is not being used these days.
Collaborators who revealed the existence of this internal tool indicated that SnapLion was used to combat spam or even abuse online. Noble objectives, but they should not be used by many online privacy advocates. Miguel Dias
