Sony and Microsoft will be together in the development of video game streaming
Microsoft and Sony have announced the signing of a partnership that will allow the two companies to collaborate on the development of new cloud services for the video game industry. In a statement, the US giant writes that "both technologies will jointly develop new cloud solutions based on Microsoft Azure to support their respective services streaming video games and other content." For the future, it is also decided that Sony's content streaming services will be supported by Microsoft's cloud platform.
"This commitment envisages building better development platforms for the content creator community," Microsoft points out. In other words, this means that Sony and Microsoft are getting closer to the video game segment, which can bring a lot of benefits to players and creators. Although nothing has been said about the theme, this partnership may even enhance cross-platform cross-play in the near future.
As far as business is concerned, this partnership also entails a huge loss for companies that provide cloud solutions, such as Amazon and Google, which will not have the opportunity to host Sony's streaming gaming solutions.
Remember that Google already has a proprietary service in this segment. In fact, Stadia could pose a threat to the future of the business of companies such as Sony and Microsoft, so this partnership could be part of a strategy to strengthen its position in the video game market. Note that Stadia will be able to stream games from the cloud to Google Chrome, Chromecast and Pixel devices, for example.
Sony already has a video game streaming service, which it called PlayStation Now and is available in Portugal. Microsoft has promised to reveal details about its version later this year, and E3 may be the stage for some ads related to the theme.
