Google and Huawei to compensate consumers who have defective smartphone
The users of faulty Google Nexus 6P that participated in the on-going lawsuit could receive up to $ 400 Google and Huawei have agreed to a settlement. Pending court approval, the companies would be liable to a $ 9.75 million settlement for the class action lawsuit that began in April 2017.
According to the lawsuit, Google, which contracted the design and manufacturing of its Android smartphone to the third-party companies, including Huawei, breached the warranty as the company was aware of the issue but did not respond with a fix. Instead, the companies continued to sell the faulty devices and did not acknowledge the issue.
The issue discussed about the lawsuit is the boot looping issue that caused the phone to shut down randomly, regardless of the phone's battery level. If the court approves the settlement, then the Nexus 6P users in the US who purchased the device on or after September 25th, 2015 would be eligible to claim reimbursement.
The next hearing for the case is scheduled on 9th May. As per the settlement proposal, those who are eligible for the settlement could receive up to $ 400, while those who received the Pixel XL smartphone in exchange exchange program would only be eligible for up to $ 10 in reimbursement.
Those who submit proper documentation for the bug will receive the most settlement money, while those without may be eligible for up to $ 75. For full details on submitting a claim, check out the as-filed long-form notice document, which explains the process. However, do keep in mind that these numbers are not concrete as the settlement is still in its final stages of approval.
The Nexus 6P was one of Google's final two Nexus devices launched in 2015. The entire lineup was scrapped and replaced with the Pixel series. It features a 5.7-inch 1440p display, Snapdragon 810 SoC, 3GB RAM, 12MP camera, and 3,450mAh battery. G. C.
