Gartner admits desktop and smartphone sales to stagnate in 2019
Global equipment sales - PCs, tablets and mobile phones - point to about 2.21 billion units in 2019, according to Gartner forecasts. The numbers represent a stagnation compared to 2018, which totaled 2,221,270 devices sold.
According to the forecasts, the personal computer market will continue to decline in the years to come, but the mobile market will resume growth in 2020, up 1.2%.
Gartner's research director, Ranjit Atwal, explains that "the PC market stagnated for the eighth consecutive year, dropping 0.6 percent from 2018 to 2019."
Roberta Cozza, also research director at Gartner, believes that "consumers do not feel the need to purchase a new smartphone model unless it shows significant improvements over what they already have," which helps explain the decline that Gartner in this segment until the end of 2019. Mundophone
