Leica banned Chinese social networkLeica was banned from Chinese social network Weibo after sharing a video that Digital Trends says showed footage of the protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
The promotional video was created by an advertising agency headquartered in Brazil as a way to celebrate journalists with Leica cameras, including among the footage used some footage of the theme that is forbidden on Chinese territory.
Note that Leica is a well-known partner of Huawei and has collaborated in the certification of the Chinese smartphone's cameras since the P9 series in 2016. Now many Weibo users point out that this partnership may be at risk.
Meanwhile, Leica is trying to distance itself from the video launched by the advertising agency and removed it from YouTube. "Leica Camera AG must therefore distance itself from the content shown in the video and regrets any misunderstandings or false conclusions that may have been drawn," a Leica representative told the South China Morning Post.
