APPLE

iPhone 11 Mockup
New Leak: iPhone 11 and 11 Plus

Thanks to reliable leakster @Onleaks, we got our first look at Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 in January. The renders showed a square-shaped camera bump on the back with three rear cameras, similar to the layout on Huawei's Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. Japanese blog Macotakara has now corroborated the renders in a new report.

Storage-Based Differentiation
The Macotakara report confirms that the triple camera system on this year's iPhone models will have a similar design to the Huawei Mate 20 with the three sensors and the flash module placed inside square-shaped bump. However, not all new iPhone variants will have a triple camera setup. Macotakara's sources claim the higher-capacity storage variants of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors will have the triple camera system.
Unlike the renders shared by @Onleaks, however, the mockups included in Macotakara's story show the three lenses and flash laid out in a symmetrical arrangement. What sounds strange is the suggestion that Apple will only equip certain variants of the iPhone 11 and 11 Plus models with triple cameras. The lower-end storage configurations will likely feature a more traditional dual-lens camera system similar to the iPhone XS and XS Max.
A report published by The Wall Street Journal earlier this year had hinted that only the 'high-end' iPhone 11 model will feature a triple camera system. By 'high-end', the report referred to the screen size and not the storage configuration. In the past, Apple has differentiated the camera systems on its iPhones based on screen size alone and not storage capacity. That said, it is imperative to keep in mind that Macotakara has a pretty decent track record when it comes to Apple-related leaks.
While the 'high-end' iPhone 11 and 11 Plus models will move to a triple-camera setup on the back, the second-generation iPhone XR is highly likely to switch to a dual-lens camera system. All the three 2019 iPhones are expected to be announced in September. Tony Barrat
