Advantages and disadvantages of wind energy
The use of wind power has many advantages compared to traditional energies and even compared to other types of renewable energy, due to its greater development.
Wind energy is often not understood by populations, especially by the populations closest to wind farms, but wind power has many benefits for society at large, from reducing dependence on fossil fuels to creating jobs.
Despite the apparent advantages in the use of wind energy for the production of electric energy, this type of wind energy utilization also presents significant disadvantages and impacts mainly in the use of large wind turbines, wind farms and wind farms.
Their use to fill the sails of the boats coincides with the beginning of the great civilizations, and marked, substantially, the difference between them.
Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, and later the Portuguese used it to wholly or partly move their boats, aiming at commerce, conquering new dominions or exploring unknown seas.
It was from the fifth century that the use of this form of energy extended to the mainland, and more concretely, in the 12th and 13th centuries with the appearance of the first hydraulic and windmills (which both characterized the landscape).
Subsequently, it played a key role in the industrial system of the sixteenth century. The wind thus became one of the main sources of energy, not animal, of mankind until the appearance of the first steam and combustion engines in the early nineteenth century.
Nowadays, the appearance of this element is promoted for ludic or commercial purposes, in a symbiosis of the technology of vanguard and the old wisdom.
Advantages for society in general
-It is inexhaustible;
-Does not emit gaseous gases or generate waste;
-Decreases the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). Advantages for the communities where the Wind Farms are located
-Wind farms are compatible with other uses and uses of the land such as agriculture and cattle raising;
-Job creation;
-Generation of investment in less-favored areas;
-Financial benefits (owners and town areas). Advantages for governments
-Reduces the high energy dependence of the exterior, namely the dependence on fossil fuels;
-Savings due to the lower acquisition of CO2 emission rights to comply with the Kyoto Protocol and EU directives and lower penalties for failure to comply;
-Possible contribution of GHG quota to other sectors of economic activity;
-It is one of the cheapest sources of energy and can compete in terms of profitability with traditional energy sources.
Advantages for promoters
-Wind turbines do not require a fuel supply and require little maintenance, since they are only reviewed every six months.
-Excellent return on investment. In less than six months, the wind generator recovers the energy expended with its manufacture, installation and maintenance. Main disadvantages of wind energy
-The blinking, ie the wind does not always blow when electricity is needed, making it difficult to integrate its production into the operating program;
-It can be overtaken with fuel cells (H2) or the hydro-pumping technique.
-It causes a considerable visual impact, mainly for the surrounding inhabitants, the installation of the wind farms generates a great modification of the landscape;
-Impact on birds of the place: mainly by the shock of these on the shovels, unknown effects on the modification of their usual migration behaviors;
