GE aerogerador Haliade-XCompany tests Haliade-X 12MW wind turbine
GE Renewable Energy has entered into an agreement with Future Wind to install its first 12MW Haliade-X wind turbine in Maasvlakte-Rotterdam, The Netherlands, during the summer of 2019!
Even if it has been prepared to be installed at sea, GE Energias Renováveis will first install the prototype on the ground to "facilitate access to the tests". The agreement includes 5 years of testing as well as a full maintenance and operating contract of 15 years!
In the initial phase of operations, the company will collect the data needed to obtain a type certificate, which will be essential to "market the product in 2021".
Haliade-X 12MW Wind
This wind has a considerable size. With a height of 260 meters and a power capacity of 12MW, as well as blades with 107 meters in length. At the announcement of the Haliade-X features, GE Renewable Energy said that this would be the largest offshore wind turbine in the world!
John Lavelle, vice president of GE Renewable Energy, spoke about the project: "As we move fast to assemble the Haliade-X prototype, this is a critical step for GE and our customers. The port of Rotterdam is a real partner who has all the necessary conditions to test Haliade-X in the most drastic weather conditions. "
GE Energias Renováveis' investment in the development of Haliade-X exceeded 400 million euros. And Future Wind is a joint venture between SIF Holding Netherlands and Pondera Development.
As for offshore wind, Europe is a major producer. For in September 2018, the largest offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea was inaugurated. This wind farm, Walney Extension, has a total capacity of 659MW, being able to suppress the energy capacity of almost 600000 dwellings of the United Kingdom, according to the Dutch Orsted.
