Neither HBO nor Hulu. 'Fortnite' and YouTube are Netflix's rivals
Netflix revealed in its latest investor report that it has reached 139 million subscribers, a figure that is certainly higher given the number of people who share accounts with each other.
The report also states that 9 million of these subscribers were won in the last three months of 2018, with a total of 29 million paying users joining the streaming service in the year.
More interesting in the report is the fact that Netflix identify its rivals. Contrary to what might be expected, rivals are not other streaming services like HBO or Hulu but rather the online game 'Fortnite' and YouTube.
"We compete (and lose) with 'Fortnite' more than with HBO. When YouTube was down for a few minutes globally in October, our views and entries peaked, "Netflix notes in its report.
Netflix recently increased the value of its US subscriptions, a change that in principle will have no effect in Portugal. The measure was approved as a way to invest in more original programming. Miguel Dias
