There's one more good reason to turn on airplane mode on your smartphone when you travel
When commencing a plane trip, it is common for stewards to advise passengers to turn off mobile devices or activate airplane mode. The advice is given for security reasons but, with the Irish Times account, your wallet will also thank you to enable Airplane mode on the smartphone.
According to the publication, a passenger who recently traveled with the airline Aer Lingus in the US received at home an account of almost 300 dollars (just over 264 euros) from the AT & T communications operator. The reason? Because the airplane mode was not activated, the smartphone attempted to connect to the aircraft's roaming network, which is charged even if it is not used.
Aer Lingus confirmed the case to Lonely Planet, confirming that the aircraft roaming network "automatically connects to smartphones that are not in airplane mode and charge fees even when the devices are not in use." Miguel Dias
