Japan loses 1,000 fuel stations per year

Japan has half the fuel stations it had in 1994

Japan in 1994 hit the country's record at petrol stations. In the year cited, more than 60 thousand filling stations were registered. However, from 1994 onwards, the number began to fall and today, in 2018, the Asian country has around 30 thousand fuel stations.Even reducing by half, Japan still has many fuel stations that are scattered all over the country.

There are regions in Japan where the nearest gas station is 150 kilometers away, which makes it very difficult for people with gasoline or diesel vehicles to live.

Main causes for the decline of fossil fuel stations in JapanThere are many causes of downsizing in Japan.
-One is that more and more Japanese choose not to have a car, due to the continuous expense with the vehicle and also the air pollution;
-Another reason has to do with the law that requires station owners to modernize and repair the older gas equipment that has made them decide to close the doors of their business;
-Another major cause of downsizing in Japan has to do with the earthquakes that are common in the country as they cause long queues to refuel vehicles because of the lack of fuel and the difficulty tankers have in reaching some áreas.

Is the decrease in fuel stations due to electric cars?

Efforts to replace fossil fuels are bearing fruit, as Japan has a target of installed capacity of up to 64 GW by 2030, but that goal can be achieved 10 years earlier, in 2020.All of this will help the Japanese to use clean energy instead of the pollutants and further expand their market to the whole world.
