The Chinese newspaper Caixin revealed today that the vice president and director of the company's business division, Song Bo and Guo Dong, respectively, were detained for allegedly accepting bribes.Based in Beijing, 58.com is used by Internet users to post online classifieds.The company explained that the "misconduct" was detected after an internal inspection earlier this year and involved "huge" amounts of money, without detailing how much.Other Chinese technology companies have conducted inspections in recent years as Beijing bets on the high-value sectors adding, aiming to transform the country's economy from cheap manufacturing to technological power.Since 2016, the Baidu search engine fired 30 employees for corruption, while last August, e-commerce giant JD.com reported 17 employees for corruption and misappropriation, including four were detained by police for criminal investigation.The fight against corruption is also one of the main sources of legitimacy for current Chinese President Xi Jinping, one of the strongest leaders in the history of the People's Republic of China.After rising to power, Xi launched an anti-corruption campaign, now considered the most persistent and widespread in Communist China's history, and has punished more than 1.5 million Chinese Communist Party (CPC) employees.
