YouTube will move to display vertical ads
YouTube is embracing an expansion to mobile platforms. This time it is not a question of redesigning a mobile application, but of supporting vertical videos, and in this case concrete, of displaying ads with that same provision. In 2017, the platform adjusted its app so that it supports the playback of vertical videos without sidebars, thus taking full advantage of the height and width of the mobile displays. In July, this same functionality came to the web version of the site, and now the company wants to capitalize on these mobile experiences with matching ads. In practice, whenever the YouTube player feels that the user is watching a video on their smartphone, the platform will display vertical ads, adjusted to the size of the video.According to Google, 70% of the playback time recorded by YouTube happens on mobile platforms, which justifies the latest investment in this type of device. Neal Mahon, head of the YouTube product department, also confessed in an interview that many advertisers have been approaching the company to create a way to support vertical ads for smartphones.Hyundai was one of the first companies to create a vertical ad for YouTube. In Portugal, mobile phones have surpassed computers in internet access for the first time since registration. Marktest, responsible for the study published this week, stresses that the increased availability of mobile Internet packages, the democratization of smartphones, the popularization of exclusively mobile services and the portability of smartphones are the reasons that may justify this increase in the use of the mobile phone to access the internet.
