China has eliminated thousands of videos and music online

The ministry removed 4,664 music products online, over 100,000 videos and 4,300 user comments for generic "infringements" and ordered 18 online music platforms to "inspect" their content to self-censor.The same entity ordered the cultural authorities of the county of Beijing, as well as those of the provinces of Zhejiang and Guangzhou to investigate cases of "online musical works that glorify fascism and militarism."The Chinese campaign aims to "regulate the commercial order of the online culture market and investigate those online cultural products that contain vulgar content."In this last action, content was eliminated from some of the country's most popular vendors, such as QQ Music, or the Douyin and Kuaishou pages that allow users to upload and share videos. On the other hand, 11 online comic companies have removed 977 works and 167 stories from the internet. Some state media had already accused some of these companies of spreading "sexually suggestive images" and even "incestuous content," according to the China Daily newspaper. The ministry added that it will strengthen oversight over operators to force them to take "strong measures" against pornographic, vulgar, violent and unethical content, as well as against those who incite crime.
Last week, China had launched a campaign against 19 video applications, including Bilibili and Miaopai, popular with teenagers, who accused of broadcasting "obscene, violent or pornographic" content as well as "promoting distorted information."
The action resulted in the definitive closure of three applications and the withdrawal of Bilibili for a month from the Android application store.
The campaign is led by the China Cyberspace Administration which has since Wednesday a new official, Zhuang Rongwen.
