MBWay, the app that wants to be the Multibanco on the mobile phone, already adds more than 800 thousand users

The service was launched four years ago and grew 2.5 times the number of users and 7.5 times the frequency of use between 2016 and 2017. It recently surpassed the threshold of 800 thousand users, a record that leaves SIBS "very proud" .
The rapid growth of MBWay "proves that the Portuguese are seeking more and more solutions that make payments simpler, more convenient and faster," the financial operator said. The milestone is even more significant considering that it represents around 50% of mobile banking users in Portugal, he adds.
At the moment, the app has more than 825,000 users, who perform about two million operations per month. On average, each user does three operations per month, with 42 euros the average value per operation.

In addition, the user base of the service is very interactive, says SIBS. "We manage a community of over 700,000 subscribers to the service newsletter and 1.5 million people on social networks where there are about 1 million interactions per month. The challenge, the integrated pastime in the service, has about 200 thousand users who access the game five times a month. "The intention has always been to evolve the application with several new features, both in terms of functionalities to facilitate the day to day, and the level of traders and partnerships available.Immediate downloads, online and in-app purchases, MB NET card generation, cartonless survey and payment via Near Field Communication and QR Code for iOS and Android devices are among the possibilities offered by the application. The growth of the network of merchants with qualified terminals, which now exceed 45 thousand, has also been essential for the results of the service, says SIBS.Another distinguishing factor is that it is a universal service, available to the vast majority of bank cards in circulation in Portugal, from 14 participating banks. In addition, it also allows the association of non-bank cards, such as meal cards.
