TV por cabo e satélite estão a perder terreno. O streaming é o maior
Cable and satellite TV are losing ground. Streaming is the biggest "culprit"
The pace at which American consumers are cutting their cable TV subscriptions is accelerating rapidly. The trend has forced eMarketer, who recently conducted a study on the phenomenon, to adjust its estimate by about 25%. According to the company, in 2021, about 50 million consumers of cable or satellite TV will have canceled their subscriptions. This forecast represents an increase of 20 million to the number registered this month and exceeds the previous estimate of 10 million.Consumers claim that the high prices of packages offered by operators are the biggest reason to give up their service. A study by a financial consulting firm recently revealed that on average each home could save about $ 85 a month if it decided to end its TV contract. On the other hand, eMarketer highlights the weight that YouTube, and other digital content dissemination services, are having in this phenomenon. In the USA there are also several channels that provide a permanent online broadcast and free of charge. In this segment, which Americans call the "cord cutters," the most popular video platforms are, not surprisingly, YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, in that order.By the end of this year, about 33 million consumers will have given up on cable or satellite TV. In 2021 it will be 50 million and in 2022, 55 million, says eMarketer.
