Radicais de extrema-direita estão a usar jogos online para recrutar novos membros
Extreme-right radicals are using online games to recruit new members

It is one of the most played games of today and, therefore, has a community of fans that goes around the world. The basis is one of the reasons for Fortnite's popularity, but it's also appealing to some radical right-wing groups who are using the game to recruit new members. According to Christian Picciolini, a former member of a North American racist and neo-Nazi group, these organizations have many active people in the Epic Games game."We are looking for young people who are marginalized and we promise them paradise, and today deplorable tactics are being used to recruit people." Depression and mental health forums and multiplayer games are appealing to attract new members, "Picciolini explained in a question and answer session was run on Reddit.Asked by other users about the action of these groups in online video game communities, Picciolini explained that it is not only the Fortnite being used for this purpose but also "Minecraft, Call of Duty" and other popular games. Other users also mentioned that they have already been approached by recruiters in Elder Scrolls Online.

One of the reports shared by one of the participants in this conversation explains that in some cases, recruiters begin by uttering "racist offenses" against fictitious races that exist only in the game in question. "After that, someone makes a point of starting to escalate the level of offenses until the recruiter makes the transition to the real world, then starting to seek validation and consensus with the group of users that are around.
Eastern Europe is the region where this tactic is being used most often, with Russian and Polish players at the highest risk of being approached.
